In the morning cabin 8 woke up at 4:45 am to watch the beautiful sunrise. We waited a long time because a giant cloud was block the view, so we waited until about 5:45 before we could actually see the sun. While cabin 8 was doing this, cabin 7 was staying in bed and sleeping as much as possible. Later that day we went on a full day boat trip. We stopped at four places to snorkel. It was very interesting seeing all the varied but still incredible sealife. In the middle of the trip, we stopped to have a delicious lunch, and a little friendly ring-on-the-hook competition. We did a leadership lesson about describing what our life would be like as a stream. When we shared, we realized many of the strengths of our peers. Finally, we learned all about night snorkeling and many of the creatures one would see while night snorkeling. Many of us even experienced it. Overall today was a fun packed day. On Day 7 we commuted to Tobacco Caye from Clarissa Falls. It was a three hour car ride to the coast, and a 25 minute boat ride to the Island. When we arrived we enjoyed lunch, and orientation. After lunch we got to experience snorkeling, around the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world, it was called the Meso-American Reef. During snorkeling we had to learn new skills, one includng filing your googles with water, and then getting the water out without taking your goggles off. Then we had to do the same with the snorkel itself. We then swam around the coral reef, while exploring the natural habitat to all species of fish. We also saw barracudas and large schools of fish. After we finished snorkeling, we waded through water to get to a reef shelf, where we enjoyed a friendly competition. We were divided into 4 groups of 4 or less, we then picked up all kinds of trash that had washed ashore. Whoever had the most accurate data sheet, won turtle necklaces for every member on the team. We had an amazing day. This is your trusty leaders of the day, Sydney and Anita! It is currently Tuesday but we will tell you all the amazing stories of yesterday. We woke up and Hut 8 missed their alarm. We had another amazing breakfast by Ms. Chena and then we started our last walk to the school. We painted as much as we could but we ran out of time and the older students at the school and some people Ms. Chena knows helped finish the classroom. Ms. Chena then surprised us by driving us back to Clarissa Falls, so we didn't have to walk. We had our favorite lunch, salbutes, and then had some down time before our leadership challenge. We split up into 2 teams and were given 4 different challenges. If you did a good job with the challenge you got 3 rubber bands, if you did okay you got 2, and 1 for a good effort. The goal was the have the most rubber bands. Our team (Tess, Sydney, Anita, and Lilly) didn't win but we had fun. We had a lesson and enjoyed our final dinner at Clarissa. We had our nightly circle and then we went to sleep. Right now we are eating our last breakfast before transfering to Tobacco Caye.
Yesterday was filled with new experiences! Starting the morning off with Mayan cave tubing. We took a long hike upstream before having a relaxing float down the river. to finish off our time there, we were able to swim alongside the tubes in the river! Next we came back to Clarissa Falls to prepare for our visit to three families in Calla Creek. Many of us recognized some of the children from the school that we are painting. In our small groups we were warmly welcomed and entertained with things like cooking, singing, dancing, and tours of their home. We then celebrated Eva's birthday with a piñata full of delicious fruit flavored candies and lollipops. to finish of the day with a bang, we held a "Showcase of Acts" where everyone performed in a small group. Overall it was an exciting day that taught us a lot ab out ourselves.
Day 5
Friday was filled with amazing food and incredible experiences. We prepared and started to paint the second classroom of the Holy Cross School. There was a great satisfaction with working on these classrooms, we were all able to interact with the children there. After work we walked back to Clarissa Falls Resort and had a delicious lunch. Then we went to Maya Chocolate, were we made a chocolate drink with fresh cocoa beans. We first roasted them until the shells started popping off. After that we peeled the extra shell off of the beans. Finally we grinned them into a paste using a clay dish and grinder called a mono and tapa. We ate our chocolate drinks and tried some of the chocolates that were sold. Both were bitter but delicious. After a fun and tiring day, we ate more awesome food and went to sleep. Day 6 Hut 9, ( Lilly, Giselle, Caitlin, and Naomi) were greeted this morning by an unwelcome guest, a large black spider crawling on the wall and not the wake up call we were expecting. It was caputured and sent on its way and we moved to a new hut to be extra cautous. We started the day with a pleasant breakfast of eggs, biscuits, and bacon, and travelled to the Mayan Ruins and claimed 140 feet to the top of a tall tower (the view was worth it) We had a lovely lunch of burritos there and we even got refreshing soda. After the ruins, we went to an iguana enclosure where we got to hold and feed the cute “beasts” some of us got scratches, but nothing bad, and we all had a great time. We then visited a market where we got many small treats. Finally, we ended our day out with some ice cream before returning to Clarissa Falls. Room 1 CHECK! we finished painting our first room and got to play "bats" with the young kids. It is like our baseball but with slightly less official bases. Lunch was a picnic with the kids, we had some of the best quesidillas we'll probably ever have, oranges that were very hard to get into and nice cold water! After walking back we all jumped into the river and had a nice refreshing swim. We have seen so many creatures lately, geckos, pecocks, dogs, lizards, horses, chickens, geese and a mysterious but beautiful bird. Dinner was fried fish, rice and salad with a new belizian dessert. We're all loving the fresh fruit, juices and food. The only thing that we are all missing...Air Conditioning!

Hut 8 here again! After lunch we had a lesson and then enjoyed some free time before swiming in the Mopan (a river). We tried to swim against the current and it felt nice to cool off after a hot day and get some energy out. We had chicken, rice, beans, and salad for dinner and it was yet again another amazing meal provided by the wonderful Clarissa Falls resort staff. They even made us chocolate cake and fruit for dessert! We are ready to paint the classroom tomorrow and maybe prep another room. We were just informed that tomorrow will be even hotter but we will let you know. We can speak for everyone that we all love and miss you so much! - Hut 8...the best hut (Sydney, Mia, Molly, and Anita) This is Sydney, Molly, Mia and Anita from hut 8. Belize is hot. Very hot, but we had a fun day prepping the classroom to paint tomorrow. We walked a mile to the school and a mile back. We told riddles, jokes and stories to each other as we walked to and from Holy Cross school in Calla village. We had a very buggy night, but we safely captured a huge bug underneath a bucket so don't worry, unless you're Gerald (that's what we named him). We had a delicious taco lunch and we are getting ready for a lesson with LaToya!! We miss the air conditioning, but we are having fun with our friends!
For Anita's parent's: She asks you kindly to not use her phone please. Thank you. For Molly's mom: She's asks you to be nice to Fred and that she misses you! On the first day of our ten day journey, we arrived at the Belize City airport around 1pm local time. When we got off the plane the first thing that hit us was the heat, and the humidity. after the customs, we met with our WLS (World Leadership School) instructor, LaToya. On our way to Clarissa Falls Resort, we made a pitstop at Cheers, to enjoy lunch. throughout our drive, we played the alphabet game, the geography game, and name celebrities game. Once we arrived at Clarissa Falls, we developed community norms. We then experienced a common Belizean dinner, fajitas. After we enjoyed a bug filled sleep.
